Chapter Eight
Damian got in a good amount of teasing after he left his bedroom, Warren still naked and lounging in the bed that they’d just given a thorough work out on.
Apparently, Jason and Matt had finished sometime earlier, so everyone in the house not only heard him and Warren going at it, but they’d heard them long enough and loud enough that any teasing that might have previously been heaped on Jason was now being flung at Damian, just because of the noise level.
It had all been in good fun, however, and he supposed he was sort of asking for it when he and Warren made their silent pact to beat Jason and Matt when it came to noise levels.
Now everything was serious. He was in his luna form, as were Lucas and Jason. The only one in their group who was a normal wolf was Roarke, and that was only because the transformation from wolf to man was nearly instant. To get into their much larger luna forms, forms that weren’t as easily hidden from the public because of their sheer size, and the fact that they walked on their two hind legs instead of all fours, two minutes to shift in and out of.
The luna forms were like tanks, powerful and feared by other shifters, but there was always that one little weakness that could be exploited.
Roarke was going to want to be in human form when they finally came across Bud’s pack of rogues. That way the man wouldn’t see four luna werewolves and think he was being attacked. He would only see three, and a normal werewolf, and he might be interested in talking.
“I don’t smell any humans in the area,” Damian said through the mental link that he shared with his alpha.
“Neither do the others,” Roarke replied. “But the hunters are supposed to be professionals. Maybe they masked their scent.”
“If they really do have cameras out here, then they can definitely see us now,” Damian said.
“Agreed,” Roarke replied. “So stay in your luna form. The last thing I want is for a bunch of humans to have our pictures in human form.”
They kept right on walking relatively quickly but slow for their usual pace, considering they were on the constant search for any sight or smell of recent hunter activity.
There was nothing. The hunters were better than they thought they were. Maybe they hadn’t even come this way.
Then Roarke gave them all the order to stop, and Damian caught the scent of a campfire.
His first instinct was that it was the hunters, but then, as they came closer, they realized it wasn’t.
It was Bud and his pack of rogues.
They were just on the right side of the wind to keep the rogues from scenting them, and that was the way they wanted to keep it, so they stayed low to the ground and incredibly quiet.
It seemed that after Bud broke away from Lawrence’s pack, he hadn’t thought about where he would go. From the look of it, he and the rest of his pack were living out of tents.
